Foundations of Modern Macroeconomics
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (April, 2002)
Average review score:

an excellent bookWhile I was teaching a graduate level core macroeconomics course, I found that reference books are very limited. These include Blanchard & Fischer's book, Barro & Sala-i-Martin's book and Obstfeld & Rogoff's book. After I found a copy of this book, I immediately realized this book is very well written, and should be added to the above list. By reading this book, one can not only learn many insightful points and advanced technics, but also can have a good survey of literatrue in many areas. I suggest that anyone in the field of macroeconomics buy a copy (by the way, I believe David Romer's book is very badly written,I think Romer himself is technically weak).

Four Comedies: The Venetian Twins, the Artful Widow, Mirandolina, the Superior Residence (Penguin Classics)
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (December, 1990)
Average review score:

18th century Venice laughs at us!There are two types of comedy: Goldoni's, and
everyone else's. For this brilliant 18th century playwright, writing chiefly in the Venetian dialect of Italian, penned some of the most delightful comedy in any language to the present day. The plays in this volume (through an excellent translation) show us a master at work: a playwright who, in laughing at 18th century Venice, was helping us laugh at the world. But this is no mean-spirited laughter; it is the laughter of sympathy, of someone who has done the same and worse, and slaps us comfortingly on the back. Life is a comedy, Goldoni reminds us, and only by taking stock and laughing at ourselves can we hope to maintain our wits! Seldom has comedy seemed more beautiful or prfound

Frederick Carder and Steuben Glass: American Classics (Schiffer Book for Collectors)
Published in Hardcover by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (October, 1998)
Average review score:

Highly Recommended!Frederick Carder and Steuben Glass by Thomas P. Dimitroff is a monumental book. The photographs are fully documented with dates, shape numbers, descriptions, measurements, etc. The text is complete with footnotes. It is a beautiful coffee table book as well as a scholarly text. Information relating to identification and the relative rarity of the various types of glass Carder designed is examined in detail making it a "must have" for collectors, appraisers, or anyone with an interest in Steuben glass.

Frederick Carl Frieseke: The Evolution of an American Impressionist
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (01 April, 2001)
Average review score:

For over forty years I've been waiting for a book like thisThis fully-illustrated hardback has come out to coincide with the like-named exhibition at Telfair Museum of Art. It may be the largest retrospective show of Frieseke's work to date (it is certainly NOT the first). Many well-illustrated catalogs of his work have been published in the past - I have six of them on my shelf - but this is by far the most comprehensive. The primary author, Nicholas Kilmer, also wrote the highly-acclaimed _A Place in Normandy_ and the Fred Taylor mysteries (_Harmony in Flesh and Black_, etc.). Contributions by David Sellin, Virginia Mecklenburg, H. Barbara Weinberg, and Linda McWhorter (coordinator of both exhibition and catalog) flesh out the text. The reproductions are magnificent. Do a web search on Frieseke, and see how many paintings you recognize. It is high time that this painter of well-known images should gain "name-recognition"!

A superb collection of speeches, writings, and reflections.Frederick Douglas was one of the most important African American leaders of the 19th Century. Frederick Douglass (Journey to Freedom)
Published in School & Library Binding by Childs World (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Frederick Douglass's literal Journey to FreedomThe first half of John Passaro's juvenile biography of Frederick Douglass for the "Journey to Freedom" series deals with what it was like growing up in slavery. Douglass's personal experiences are illustrated with graphic photographs and etchings from the early 19th-century that will definitely leave an impression on young readers. Even if a class is studying American slavery in general and not the life of Douglass in particular, this section would be of great use to teachers and students alike. Students will also learn about the Underground Railroad, the Abolitionist Movement, the treatment of black soldiers during the Civil War and the fight for Civil Rights after the war was over. Passaro's biography ends with stories about Douglass's final meeting with his former master and his death after attending a suffragist meeting, a fitting pair of final points to emphasize the idea that Douglass was a strong voice for freedom. This volume covers a lot of ground, providing upper elementary and junior high school students with all of the basics of Douglass's life within an appropriate historical context. Of all the volumes I have read so far in the "Journey to Freedom" series, this is obviously the biography for which the description is literally true.

The Frederick Douglass Papers: Series 1; Speeches, Debates, and Interviews, 1847-54
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (December, 1979)
Average review score:

I'm shocked to be the first to review this.My Bondage and My Freedom, one of Douglass' several autobiographies, a very important book that should be read by anyone interested in United States history generally, or the crucial and often tragic role race has played in that history. Douglass, a former slave, was one of the few African-Americans who achieved prominence in the largely white, new england abolition movement. Douglass was an eloquent writer and (by historical accounts) speaker. His recounting of his experience as a slave, and his reflections on his role as a black former slave in America, are powerful.

Frederick Douglass: The Narrative and Selected Writings
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages (01 September, 1983)
Average review score:

If you like Douglass, you'll like thisGood stuff from the great freedom fighter. Rarely known texts are included with the famous "Narrative." "The Condition of the Freedmen", a look at African-Americans 20 years after the end of slavery, provide some sobering thoughts for American Blacks today. "The Heroic Slave" tells the little-known true story of Madison Washington, who led a slave ship called "The Creole" into freedom in 1841. I would also recommend "The frederick Doulgass Reader" and "The Life and Times of Frederick Doulgass" to make your "Dougology" complete!

Frederick Forsyth: Three Complete Novels
Published in Hardcover by Outlet (December, 1988)
Average review score:

Forsyth's first, and best, novelsFrederick Forsyth elevated the standard for the intrigue/thriller with his first three novels. The Day of the Jackal and the Odessa File are two of the best of the genre, even today.
